Car Accident Attorney at Stewart Law Offices Unveils Injury Claim Value Review for Wreck Victims
Stewart Law Offices details why medical bills set only the floor of a South Carolina personal injury claim.
So they love you while you’re paying, but they may not love you as much when they have to pay out.”
ROCK HILL, SC, UNITED STATES, November 3, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Stewart Law Offices today unveiled the Injury Claim Value Review, the process the personal injury law firm uses to measure what a car wreck claim is worth beyond the medical bills. Brent Stewart, founder of the firm and a car accident attorney who opened its first office in Rock Hill, South Carolina, in 1995, detailed the review in a new podcast interview released Oct. 21, 2026. Most people hurt in a wreck judge a settlement offer against one number: the total of their medical bills. Stewart, a car accident attorney with more than 30 years in practice, said on SharkPreneur with host Seth Greene that the total is where the math starts, not where it ends.
Policy limits can matter as much as the injury itself. South Carolina requires drivers to carry at least $25,000 in bodily injury liability coverage per person and $50,000 per accident.**
"In South Carolina, it's only 25 per person, 50 per accident. So if you have $26,000 in medicals, you're already $1,000 behind, and then you have to go into your underinsured," Brent Stewart said during his appearance on the SharkPreneur podcast.
The Injury Claim Value Review is built around that gap. Stewart walked through each piece on the show, starting with the medical bills, which he described as the baseline a recovery should at least cover.
Coverage comes next. The review looks past the at-fault driver's liability policy to the injured person's own underinsured motorist coverage when it exists. Stewart said that step changes who sits across the table, because the injured person's own insurer may hire a lawyer to defend against the claim.
"So they love you while you're paying, but they may not love you as much when they have to pay out," Stewart said.
The third piece covers losses no medical bill shows. Stewart said a claim should account for lost wages, loss of enjoyment of life and, for married clients, a consortium claim, which is a spouse's claim for lost companionship and support.
The last piece is timing. Stewart said a case's value can change day by day, and that holding out for a larger number only makes sense when the cost and the wait do not leave the client worse off.
None of that math works without the facts. Stewart described a client on a scooter hit by a tractor-trailer during what a witness, found by the firm through scene photos, called an illegal pass. Beer she was carrying broke open in the crash, and Stewart said she was ticketed for DUI at the hospital before her blood records showed no alcohol.
She later lost her leg. Stewart said the case taught him that "things aren't as they appear, and everybody deserves an investigation into something like that."
Brent Stewart began his career at Bordas, Bordas and Jividen in Wheeling, West Virginia, and served as an attorney for the Office of the Attorney General of Guam before opening Stewart Law Offices. He is licensed in South Carolina and holds the "AV Preeminent"® rating from Martindale-Hubbell®.*
Stewart is writing a book on when injured people need a personal injury lawyer. In his view, most clients are not trying to get rich from a claim and simply want to get back on their feet.
